Virginia Garcia, Rural Program Coordinator, and Mayor John Huerta, Jr. deliver meals to Elena Amezcua, pictured with her husband.

Elena Amezcua, 79, of Greenfield has been getting home-delivered meals for ten years.  A leg accident caused her to be bed ridden for two years and left her unable to shop or cook.  Mrs. Amezcua says the meals have helped her financially and have improved her health.  “The food is well prepared for my health and the people who deliver the meals are very kind and understanding.”

Elena was born in Mexico, but has lived in Greenfield for 50 years.  She is married and before he retired, her husband worked as a field worker.  She and her husband have raised 7 children and now have 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

To anyone considering getting meals, Mrs. Amezcua says, “Meals on Wheels is a good program and the services are also very good.”
